“Redland City Council is proud to provide $55,000.00 for Capital Infrastructure Support Grant AND $2,800.00 for Organisational Support Grant as part of the Community Grants Program to assist the Redlands Community”

REDLAND CITY COUNCIL GRANTS FUNDING FOR THE STRADDIE SHARKS

The Club has been very lucky in the last round of Redland City Council Community Grants Funding with successful applications in the Capital Infrastructure Support Grants for the sum of $55,000.00 which will in addition to our own Club funds enable us to get started and complete stage 1 of the Clubhouse extensions.  These extensions will be downstairs at the field end of the present building and include a new referees room, first aid room, canteen area and storeroom/wet area and a foyer giving access to these new areas.  Public Toilets will be included in this building area to enable the present toilet block at our front door to be removed.

In addition to the Capital Infrastructure Grant we were also successful in being awarded a smaller Organisational Support Grant of $2,800.00 for a Laptop Computer and appropriate programs for the Secretary and other Officials of the Club to use  when necessary.

These two grants will be of great assistance to the Club in these projects and are very much appreciated.

 VIP VISITORS

Tuesday the 18th saw Michael De Vere and Darren Smith (both former Broncos - State of Origin, and Australian players) attend the Ron Stark Oval to join our junior teams in their training sessions.  Also in attendance were Brian Kerle (former Brisbane Bullets Coach) who now works with Queensland Sport and Recreation, and Emily Tapsell who is our sport and recreation officer with the Redlands PCYC, and both instrumental in the organization of the visit.

Mick and Darren joined in with each of the teams as they trained, and from the kids faces it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  We put on a sausage sizzle after training, and much thanks must go to Snowy Crouch, and Toni Fisher who both jumped in at very short notice to help.

It is not often that kids get to throw a footy around with players of this calibre and it was a privilege to have them join us.
The boys then stayed on, and took the Opens in a training session, concentrating on attacking skills, and passed on some valuable "tricks of the trade."
A big note of thanks to Brian, Emily, Mick and Darren who were kind enough to give of their time to support and assist our Island Community.

Coaching Coordinator

UNDER 6 NEWS:
On Sunday 6/6/10, we played away at Wynumn and the kids played a good high scoring game. Ryan got 3 tries and 20 tackles, Denzel scored 5 tries and 3 tackles, Michael got 10 tackles and Mikayla got 3 tackles. They all played hard with 100% effort.

On Sunday 26/06/10, we played at home against Carina. The team played well with all players working hard to do their part. Ryan scored 4 tries and 14 tackles, Michael was the top tackler with 17 tackles, Sol scored 1 try and 7 tackles, Mikayla got 5 tackles and Denzel got 7 tackles. Good game kids!

 UNDER 7's NEWS:

This week the under 7’s played a home game against Graceville. It was the first game of the season without having their coach James on the field. They played a really good game. They weren’t really bunched up like they usually are. They had a try at having a scrum which was good. They’re passing the ball around more often and their tackling is improving as well. This week we are having an away game against Springwood.

UNDER 8's NEWS:
Sunday 8th August we played Souths Graceville at home.  We had a full team except for one player who is skiing in New Zealand (lucky Nic) so the kids were rotated on and off quickly so no one was left on the bench for long.  Reo and Paris did some great try saving tackles and with Oscar, topped the tackle count.  Tries were scored by Paris (2) and Coen (1), Paris has a great attacking play, always following the ball and ready for any available offloads which result in tries.  All players need to remember to spread out more when attacking, our runners can't get any speed as they have to dodge their own players all the time, and if you were at the game on Sunday, when the kids ran up together yelling UUUP!!!!,the other team knocked the ball on several times, if we can do this everytime we will have a great defensive side of young players.

Always remember: play together as a team, give everyone a run, encourage your team mates to tackle, have fun and you will always be a winner.

UNDER 10's NEWS
Sunday 1st August – Another home game this week against Slacks Creek with the weather being nice and sunny with warmer conditions than last week in the rain.  We had 2 reserves this week and commenced the game with a great start in scoring the first try and conversion.  At half time we were well in front and the tries just kept coming.  Everyone was more involved this week and played with a lot more confidence than usual which showed in our well deserved win.  Great effort by all players with their hits up and tackling so keep up the good work.  Try scorers this week were Channing (2), Justin (2), Nate (1), Shareya (1), Tyran (1).  Top tackler this week was Nate (11) with Reed (10) coming a close second.  Nate (14) ran in the most hit ups with Tyran (12) not far off and deserves a mention for his great contribution to the game.  I would also like to mention that Riley C scored his first conversion this week so well done Riley.  Unfortunately we have a forfeit this week against Cannon Hill.  There will be no training this Wednesday 4th August (School District Sports) or next Monday 9th August & Wednesday 11th August due to the Exhibition public holidays.  Our next training session will be Saturday 14th August at 8am to 10am.  See you all there.  Please don’t forget to support the Silver Circle $20.00 a ticket which will be the last funding raising event for our footy season.  See Liz for a number.

UNDER 15's NEWS
Sunday 11th July saw us with our first home game for a while up against Capalaba.  With only 13 players (seven of which are Under 14’s) and Capalaba just going down to one of the top teams in our Comp by only 2 points, we weren’t sure what to expect.  The boys started the game strong and hard and proved what a great team they are going to half time 24 nil in front.  Capalaba didn’t have any comeback in the second half as the boys kept up their great defence and attack to take the game 50-12.  Top tacklers were Clint with 18, Jai B, Quentin and Greg all on 14 and Kyle on 13.  Try scorers were Tristan, Mark, Clint and Nic with two each and Quentin and Kevin with one each.  Kevin kicked five goals.  A great all round effort by every player to come away with the win.
