History of the North Stradbroke Island Rugby League and All Sports Club Inc.

The Straddie Sharks were formed in 1986 as a club in their own right when a group of locals got together to form a home for a couple of teams that were playing as "B" sides at Redlands J.R.L. in the 1984 and 1985 seasons.
Assisted by the Wynnum Manly Rugby League Club, we were originally affiliated with the Brisbane Division Junior Rugby League through them.
Local businesses got behind the club with sponsorships for jerseys and equipment, and local tradesmen manufactured and erected the goal posts and first aid boxes in their spare time. CRL Mining Co allowed us to use their unused barracks (now Minjerribah Hostel) across the road from the field as change rooms, and Stradbroke Ferries assisted us greatly by carrying all players and officials to and from games as deck passengers on the barges at no cost to our club or the visiting teams.

WIth fundraising we were able to purchase a small catering caravan which was towed to the field each game day and the mums worked hard cooking and serving hamburgers and hot dogs and liquid refreshments in very confined conditions.
Our original goal post pads were cast-offs from Lang Park and with incredible dedication and hard work by the original committee and helpers in the community, the club was up and running.
We were fortunate to have two local club referees, one of whom was a member of the Education & Training Committee who was able to train our young boys and girls with a vision to in later years to become home club referees.

Fundraising has always been a serious part of the club and 'Stage 1' of the clubhouse building was officially opened in July 1993. This building has been extended considerably since then and we are again in the process of planning further extensions for the near future.
The Straddie Sharks contribute in many ways to the local community, often collecting and transporting members of other clubs and school students to sporting events when required.
The club facilities are also often made available for community based functions.
The Club's membership today stands at over 800, but it is the dedication of our volunteers and the financial support of
our sponsors - some of whom have been with us from day one - that have made Straddie Sharks the thriving community club that it is today.
